Hi Guys,

Looking for a bit of advice. As ye can see from the pics my wiper arms are looking a bit shabby to say the least! So was going to take them off and replace them, or try spraying them....

So, has anyone re sprayed a set before and if so what would be the best way to go about it and what paint etc....

Or, anyone know if they can be bought??

Cheers in advance.

Sand rust back to metal. Put newspaper under wipers. Coat of acid etch primer from aerosol. Couple of coats of Matt black from aerosol. Job done

Cheers seanie, sorry now for the ignorance but I know nothing about sprays etc. will I get them in halfords etc and am I looking for any brand or type etc?

Did it to mine on the old B4, caps off, wiper arms off, seperate from blades, etch primer, primer, and 2 coats of matt black, turned out brand new. Sand your's back to metal on the rusty part first though.

And don't forget the rear wiper arm, they're usually the first to go

You'll get it all in Halfords or any decent motor factors. No need to remove arms just remove wiper blades and mask well

2 minutes to remove the arms and do the spraying away from the car or 10-20mins masking up and still risking overspray on the car. I know which I'd choose.

If I was doing myself I'd take off the arms but leaving them on requires no tools and not everyone has hands they can wipe their arse with so it avoids damage to wiper spindles and mis alignment of wiper arms afterwards which I have seen windscreen guys do and they are at it every day.
There are Rough lads out there!

Thanks for all the replies guys.

I have the front two off and sanded down, right to the metal where the rust was. No way could I get the rear off. Opened the nut but she wouldn't budge! And wasn't going to force it! So the rear is all masked up and front two on the bench waiting for paint! Must visit halfords tomoro in town!

And don't worry seanie, I am a carpenter by trade so the hands are fine, just no experience with metal really, or cars for that matter! :) But I know exactly what you mean!

Ready for spraying!
