Best upgrades ???

Sti Shane

Sunday Drivers
Hey how's it going .. Was just wondering what would be the best upgrades to do on my 00bug eye sti with wr1 engine

As in
Best turbo upgrade
Best injector size etc etc
.. Looking at 350 bhp upwards nothing to mental as it would be a daily driver ..

Also what's the max power the wr1 can handle

.. As it is I've gotten a 3" decat system including up pipe .. And will be mapped soon

Well STi Shane,

From what I no anyway the new age STI engines are better tunable than classic engines. For the power your looking to achieve A frontmount intercooler, exhaust system and induction kit with uprated fuel pump and fuel pump reg and full mapping will achieve around the power your looking for. The new age STI's comes with a twinscroll turbo (as far as I know). Addition of 550cc injectors or bigger would help too. Some of the lads that have already done these upgrades will be able to give you more details, hope that bit helps you.

From what I have heard the new age sti engine's will take around 430 - 450 bhp, if anyone can correct me please do!

Thanks for the reply

From what I have heard the top mount can't handle 400bhp -420bhp quote me if I'm wrong anybody
And also did all new age have twin scroll as mine is a single scroll ....??

What's the difference between td turbos a Vf which is better do you know :\ and also about the 16g 18g 20g what's all that about and which is best :/ ...

as ed says above newage cars are very tunaeble but to keep it reliable stay around 350 ,the only twin scroll cars are jdm sti ,spec c etc from v8 on .in my opinion stick on a td05 20g turbo, full decat exhaust ,uprated fuel pump, uprated air filter {induction kit or panel filter}get it remapped to run on 95 octane fuel and you will have about 340-360 bhp it will be a very quick and driveable car and also very reliable ,no issues with gearbox etc

But are wr1 engines 320bhp ??
And the td05 20g is that very laggy .. What's a td05 18g I'm new to the turbo stuff haha

As above a 18g or 20g billet.

18g is smaller so will have less lag but at 360 it will be nearly maxed out and running very hot the bigger 20g will be a little more laggy but should be on full boost by 3000 rpm or 3200 but it will be fine at 360 and wont be maxed out

So the wr1 as standard is nearly maxed out at 320bhp ?
Doesn't leave much room for improvement haha
So new turbo is looking like a must

Just the big question of which one now :/

basically a wr1 is a uk sti with a prodrive performance pack but unless yours has the wr1 ecu its just standard sti power about 265 so the upgrades im saying will turn it inside out .also the reason i said td05 20g is that if in the future you decide on more mods you wont need to change the turbo as its good for 380-400 bhp

exactly ross im a firm believer in if ya can drive it right ya dont need big horses ,i think everyone should do some track driver training to learn how to get the most from what ya have before chasing bhp

But if I map it the way it is will I get the magic number 320 ... as all I'm missing is the ecu for the wr1 bhp isn't it ???

its not all about numbers ...........
[/quote]
Well it is and isn't I just want the most from an engine safely with harming reliability
I'm not the one for tearing off at traffic lights and racing micros to try and get some street credit .. I just like to know that the power is there if I need it and I'd rather spend my money on my car otherwise I'd waste it on stupid stuff and I wouldn't have anything to show for it hahaha
