Diesel Tuning

Anyone heard of the potential of the Subaru diesel engines? Im thinking of maybe retiring the legacy next year and try out a imprza/legacy diesel to try something different, i have seen litchfield have a stage 2 map in the works and is about 200bhp and oodles of torque. Just wondering if they have potential or would i be better going for a vag diesel?

apart from being quiet, the Subaru diesel has never gotten good reviews, in particular it is not very frugal which kind of defeats the point of a diesel.

Have Impreza diesel. 6ltrs 100km. Nice car. Only fault is that the DPF light on at 75k km. haven't sorted it yet.

it has a 64l tank so that gives you 48mpg! if you think that is impressive, for a modern diesel it isnt

60l tank in my current legacy
[/quote]

It actually has a 65l litre tank

http://subaru.co.uk/vehicles/legacy/20d-s/

From what I've heard Subarus figures are way off, even their claimed figures are not good compared with VAG or BMW

150hp and some people getting only getting 35mpg in city driving.

http://www.fuelly.com/car/subaru/legacy/diesel h4

"Officially, it averages 49.6mpg – but, during our tests, it returned a very disappointing 33.6mpg. "

There is a such a thing as brand loyalty but surely the main reason for a diesel is basic economics, and the Legacy diesels doesn't stack up.

And then back to the topic of tuning, there is a proven track record re-mapping VAG and BMW diesels.

On the Legacy's side you will be in something a bit different and not as boring as a VAG and you get AWD.

I would personally get a 330d or if you can stretch to a 335d or 535d a mapped one of those will drop most cars..your looking at an easy 360bhp and over 500fltbs and rwd for arsing about.

I must check these out so, i dont think you can be loyal to a brand when it has basically moved away from its heritage of producing some cracking cars to run of the mil family runabouts, sure ill keep an eye out for something good.
