Replacing gearbox

My car is getting harder to get in to first
And if I try it whilst the car is still rolling it will crunch
So I need to make plans to change it I think
Now budget is fairly small
I plan to 6 speed it some day but not until next year I'd say
So I'm trying to plan the best way to do it
My00 impreza turbo
Is it to dear to have my own box repaired
Is the impreza turbo gearbox not good enough for 300 - 320 bhp
If the above aren't doable what box should I be looking for jdm sti I assume
If so can I throw in the uk fifth handy enough
Again I'm not doing it imediately I'm just trying to figure out how much it will cost and what is the best way to go about it
Ideally I'd like to fix my own as I liked it until this problem came along :sucks:
Any advice much appreciated
Cheers Colm

Any chance the clutch could be causing the problem?

Box wise, not sure if its economical to repair as it'll probably be €200 just to open the box. UK classic boxes are good for over 300, get a jdm v5/6 sti box or a newage wrx 5 speed box. No need for the uk 5th unless the box is out of a type r or ra

New exeedy in a few months back
Deffo gearbox from last time out on track I think
So a sti box is better
Best off going that route so
Or new age wrx box
Cheers Robbie

Afaik newage wrx 5 speed are same as classic sti boxes so as strong and may be a better chance of finding a low mileage one

blobeye wrx boxes is the way to go colm strongest of the 5 speeds and supposedly beter to cope with the figures you will be chasing

Have you looked into a possible Clutch master or slave cylinder giving trouble Colm? The fact that you recently got a new clutch fitted could mean that the system needs proper bleeding.
As in taking slave off the box and clamp it and make sure the bleed nipple is at the highest point of the slave as when its on the box it wont be and will still have air in it

Cheers Gordon

I had the same thing for a long time especially when everything was hot.
I would try that before condeming the box, you can get rebuild kits for both and its worth doing , I think 70 for the master and 50 for the slave.
