Mapped

Anybody know if once a car is mapped, fuelling, boost......will it reset by removing the battery for more than an hour? just read somewhere earlier that ecu will reset if battery is removed for a small period.

Bit stupid if it does, prob a stupid question

:subaru:

there are two memories in an ecu one is called volatile memory ,this is the memory that is erased when battery is disconnected it holds short term memory only from each drive cycle the car completes .non volatile memory is the long term memory where the map etc is writen and can only be change by flashing a programme into the module with a lap top

In other words...

You won't loose your map by disconnecting the battery..

When you drive your car, the ECU is learning and adjusting a bit (ignition, MAF readings etc)
when you disconnect the battery for a long time you will loose all the adjustments your ECU had learned.. but no worries, it will re-learn again as soon as you drive it a bit again.
