01 Legacy B4 rear diff ratio ?

Hi lads

Does anyone know this ratio for definite?
I have been offered a gearbox from a 01 Leggy with crash and engine damage, from a member on the site, just need to know if I need the rear diff also

If it is I'm laughing my rear diff is ok and its a 4.4, need to know for sure though
 
I'm pretty sure Revision D (may 01 onwards) turbo manuals have 4.111 final drives, instead of the 4.444 found in Rev A and Rev B (up to april 01)

Where did you get that info from?
 
TY754VBBBA that's my one and I'm sure is 4.111.I was checking that on some japaneese website...
after work will try to find it.
 
Easiest thing to do as you're breaking the car is take the rear diff, mark the input and output shafts with tipex. Then twist the input shaft (prop) once and measure how many revolutions the output shaft makes. If its 4.1, the the tipex lines will only be a fraction out. If its 4.4, then the tipex marks will be virtually 180 degrees apart.

That'd be the easiest way i can think of, or else I'm nearly sure you can take the backing plate off the rear diff and it will be stamped on the gear itself. But that way you'll need a new diff seal as well.

Obviously then the ratio of the diff will be the same as the gearbox..

"Assuming you have dropped the rear diff down to access all the bolts you just remove all the bolts, after draining the oil.
Remove the backing plate to expose the internals of the diff and with a cloth just wipe the crown wheel which is the big gear to reveal the numbers stamped into it( you may need to rotate the wheels till you find where it is stamped) it should read something like 40 / 9 which equates to having 40 teeth on the crown wheel and 9 teeth on the pinion gear which equate to being a 4.44:1 ratio diff "
 
Have a solution to this , just need to give a specialist in the uk a call this morning to run through what I need to do.
 
I have been talkig to David in Api engines in the uk.Basically what I have to do is swap the ring gear on the legacy diff onto the wagons diff and use the diff in the legacy casing so I have essentially made my own diff a 4.1 and no messing with drive shafts because thats just a no go. Only tricky bit is setting the backlash from the ring gear and pinion :icon_redface: might drop it in somewhere to set this :dontknow:

At least I know Its a simple enough job now :subaru:
 
Have the legacy ring gear swapped over , torqued and thread locked and just fitted the diff to the legacy casing. So just need a hand to set the backlash on the diff and bang it in the car. Ya learn something everyday isnt that what they say :roll:
