Steam Cleaning

So bought myself a steam cleaner which arrived last week, been dying to get one for ages now so delighted :multijump:

This is a wheel which hasn't been cleaned for about 4 years now and the dirt and grimes is just baked on, along with a top coat of salt and mud from travelling the roads the last few weeks..

The idea of this was to help minimise the amount of contact and scrubbing needed to clean baked on brake dust from the wheels. The process was to use the cold pressure washer to clean as much of the top layer off as possible, then apply some 50/50 mixed Bilberry non-acidic wheel cleaner and leave to soak fr a few minutes. Turned the steamer on to max pressure (3.5bar) with the jet nozzle and went to town. With the heat of the steam combined with the wheel cleaner, the baked on brake dust just melted away. Some of the more stubborn areas required some gentle aggitation with a meguiars soft bristle brush. This is the result:

Have to say, delighted with how it worked out having barely touched the wheel. So much better for the finish on the wheels where you are not scrubbing them with a long bristled brush creating scratches and swirls :049:

No pictures, but once I was finished with the wheels, I moved on to the interior of my sister's Micra which had been lying up for a few months untouched and had mould growing on the all the seats, seat belts and carpet. A little APC on a cloth to rub down the excess and then went over everything with the steam. With the steam at over 120 degrees, it will kill the bacteria instantly so there's no need for any specialist chemicals

Will be using this plenty more in details over the coming few months so will see what else I can use it for

very good Robbie
They are a great yolk no doubt
was it exspensive ?
i have a cheap one but wouldn't mind getting a decent one

Nice job dude, the less scratching and agitating with brushes the better. Should be useful for interior jobs too, carpets etc.

Cheers lads, very useful tool it would seem. Colm, it is a Polti Vaporetto Comfort, it was 81sterling delivered to one of our factories up north as they wouldn't deliver to the south

I was expecting to have useable steam for about 20mins from the reviews but i was using it on full power for at least double that

yeah good buy Robbie
i love them on interiors
just cant beat a germ free interior
You can also iron clothes with them
not that I do

great for stubborn greasy engine bays that need a spruce and clean aswell!!!
I have 1 here thats going to clean my intercooler and a few other spots before they get a touch of paint!!!!

A good steam cleaner is invaluable on all surfaces, its non abrasive and alot more environmentally friendly than even the mildest chemicals!
Good man Robbie

Gonna be using it on my own engine bay as well in the coming weeks, hasn't been cleaned in years so I'm looking forward to a good transformation.

Small bit of apc or degreaser on the more stubborn stuff and your away
