Sports cat-Opinions?

If I had the spare cash I would probably buy a 100 cel to avoid having to take the down pipe off every nct :ponder2:

Some of the lads on scoobynet were saying you have to have it really hot to scrap a pass on the emmisions with them aswell

I have one and passed cold
[/quote]

Your car was cold going into the nct? Thats grand so

Compared to the factory cat , is the flow alot better did you find Keith?

mine passed nct fine aswell with only 100 cell Magnaflow cat in bottom section of DP.Only got the drive there to warm it up

I know a lad with a 100 cell downpipe and has no issues with the nct, he did say however that its very important to heat wrap the cat and to drive it for about 30 min prior to going into the nct.

I think he also mentioned running a bit of dipetane before hand also.

 100% thanks Dan, can you compare the flow differences to the factory cat?

Whats the idea of the heat wrap? Just to keep the heat in it to help it work more effeciently?

Im not sure what the flow of my factory DP was but i went from a 2.5DP to catless Dp with sports cat center section.

That's the idea alright baz afaik cats only work when fully warmed up so the heat wrap helps keep the cat hot.

Thanks Mick

There should be no real need for wraps or additives when the cat is in downpipe close to turbo, its when you have to fit them further back in certain section for example that temps start to drop..
I wouldnt go putting Dipotane in the fuel as its an octane killer..

Sports cats seem to be the job as far as im concerned, im faced myself with having to take a downpipe of to refit a cat downpipe for test and then swap back again, and its a pain in the hole and thats when everything goes right for you and no bolts ring off etc etc..
Ive seen reported figures of only @ 1% power loss when using a high flow cat over a decat so dont think power loss is a concern

Yeah the thoughts of changing over everytime is a pain in the balls. Although at this stage I could probably do it with my eyes closed. Its just a horrible job if you get a rung bolt/nut or snap one of the 3 studs on the turbo or the lambda is welded in there.
Plenty of copper grease on the thread can help and having spare studs and nuts in the tool box also when it does go wrong for you.

Still a pain in the knob do, especially with 1 year NCTs..
I had actually thought of Buying one and getting a tweek on the map on Blob

Defo worth it if they pass emmisions and dont restrict power that much to notice

i have a sports cat on the hawk and on the rollers it gained 20 bhp over standard unmapped, it doesnt give as good a burble as the decat i had on it but it does my head in having to change them every two years so is defo worth it on a classic thats needs a yearly nct
