Lambda sensor diagnostic questions

Can anyone here run or read diagnostics with a laptop plugged into the diagnostics port? Car has Ecutek map so does anyone have Deltadash or does it work for this?

Questions:

1. How many Lambda sensors are there on my 03 STI? I heard there are pre & post cat sensors - does this mean there are two of them?

2. How can I check that the Lambda sensor(s) are working correctly? I heard of diagnostic check but how do you do this? Is it a dealer job?

3. Is Lambda another name for o2 sensor or are they different?

3. They appear to be expensive to replace - I've seen cheap genuine low-mileage ones on Ebay. Can I replace/fit these myself if car was up on ramp (if it does turn out to be faulty) or is it a mechanic only job?

4. Would this OBDII diagnostic unit be any good? http://www.scoobyworld.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=280&products_id=1831

5. Where's the fuel/air sensor then? Easy to find/replace? Expensive?

throw up nct report on emmission readings and someone may be able to help mate. Dont see where your coming from with the boost problems = lambda problem :ponder2:

To be honest the NCT report is probably obsolete now that I've cleaned the MAF sensor and that has changed the behaviour of the engine already. I just have a niggling feeling that other sensors are old/dirty or not working correctly also - and i would like to ideally replace them with new ones to be sure to be sure - that's why i was asking what there are.

After reading around it appears there is a sensor called a Fuel/Air sensor http://japanparts.com/db/parts_detail.php?NUMBER=00034934&VOLUME=190-049-002&DEALER=1&CAR=3&MIDDLE=1&SMALL=41&MAKER=5&VOLKEY=&SEARCH_DEALER=1&SEARCH_CAR=3&SEARCH_MIDDLE=1&SEARCH_SMALL=41&SEARCH_MAKER=&SEARCH_VOLKEY=&SEARCH_page=&submit.x=18&submit.y=5

Is this the Lambda sensor people are talking about?

There also is an Oxygen assembly - no picture of it though - seems very expensive:

Which one is it on this site?
http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/2003/subaru/impreza/fuel_injection/oxygen_sensor.html

Can these be fitted by anyone with car on ramp or are they specialist mechanic only jobs? Anyone know how much they are to replace/fit with new ones here in Ireland?

I see someone doing "front" sensor themselves here:

Again is there more than one?

p.s. this http://japanparts.com/images/ImageFromDB.php?base=1&no=21785 is a picture of the MAF sensor i was talking about - see the little bulb in the picture - check your engine and wipe this clean if it is black!

Lambda really have nothing to do with boost man

I've removed most of the irrelevant stuff and just concentrated on what I want to know about the various o2/fuel sensors...
