Remapping the boxer diesel

Sunday Drivers
seen a few tuning boxes appearing online for the boxer diesel...various prices ranging from about £375 up to about £800 :shock2:

heard from some people that these tuning boxes are not worth it and its always a better option to get the ecu remapped

anybody got any views on this or know anybody to recommend that specialises in diesel remapping, particularly on the subaru diesel?

Thanks

Tom try these links, the prices you were given were way off

Martin Tracey, Westward Engineering in Enfield is a Tuning Box authorised dealer. The good thing about him is that when you order in the unit he will let you bring the car for a run with the unit installed before you hand over the cash. Tuning Box are the original TUV approved boxes.

I use one on a Ford. I think its okay but because it doesn't have an intercooler it has a tiny flat spot. I have driven Nissans and VW's with the tuning box and they work very well. It has improved mpg and torque but it all depends on your right foot.

An ECU map is in my opinion better however the tuning box can be removed in seconds and if you have warranty issues this will be a plus. I have driven a 2007 530d with an ECU map done in England and it was mapped beautifully. Huge torque.

Thats all I can help you with here - let us know how you get on but the prices you were quoted are way off

Thanks a lot Steve. Will keep Martin in mind when my car is coming close to end of warranty.
Might also look at one for the missus car but need to sort out the warning lights on the dash first...
