DVB-T Digital TV

I bought a double din Chinavasion unit a few months ago similar to Hammie's one: http://isdc.ie/discussion/index.php?topic=21450.0 but mine is a model with lesser functionality, i.e. no sat nav.
I then bought this unit from Alibaba to complement the head unit so that I could pick up the digital tv signal: http://www.aliexpress.com/product-f...eceiver-box-MPEG4-2010HD-PVR-wholesalers.html The unit plugs into the external port of the head unit so you can have it on all the time (probably not a good thing ).

This has worked out very well. The Chinavasion unit has a super clear screen and is ideal for the HD digital terrestrial signal. I've attached some pictures I took and as you can see you can pick up the usuals (RTE 1 & 2, TV 3, TG4 and then there is 3e and another RTE news channel. The news channel shows the 1 o'clock news live at 1 and repeats it during the day until 6 and then shows six-one live and repeats that until 9 and so on. So it's handy enough if you sit in the car at, say 2.30, you can just turn on that channel and get fairly recent news.

The unit has 3 video outs. One is used by the head unit and the other 2 could be used by headrest monitors down the line if I fit them, which I'll probably do. It also has a usb port for firmware update and a hdmi port. You can also plug a media player into it and play your video through the head unit (and headrest monitors if you had them).

The digital signal gives top quality viewing when it can be picked up. I don't know if this is because the 2 antennas supplied aren't strong enough or because the digital signal is not at full pace yet. As far as I know, it will be the middle of this year before all parts of Ireland will be able to receive the signal. I got someone to install this unit, even though it's not that hard, and he reckoned leaving the antennas just over the dash at the bottom of the windscreen is where they are supposed to be. I'm sure he's right but I've moved them up behind the sunvisors and this has helped to pick up the signal in places where i couldn't pick it up previously. Time will tell if this will always be the case, in other words, the solution may be to purchase higher db antennas. The only thing now is that the antennas catch the eye a lot more. Them and the furry dice will probably make me look like a proper boy racer car but sure what can you do....

Anyway, here are a few pics. I may edit this post later if I think of something else.

A.

no worries, mac. I'm often looking up these things and wondering do they work as good as they're supposed to, so I said I'd post about this unit now that I've got it.
