Installing a Tachometer

Jaak

Petrolheads
Hi,

I got a tacho/shift light combo recently, but couldn't figure out where to connect the green wire to detect the engine revs.
Could anyone give me some advice where to link it up to?

The manual says on the - of the coil pack, but couldnt even find that :wall:
I have a Legacy B4 year 2000.

Many thanks.

Do you not have an RPM gauge in the dash?

You can tap into the RPM signal wire there.

Hi Andy,

The car has a stock RPM gauge in the dash, but I don't know which wire to tap into.
I had a look for the coil pack in the engine bay, but couldn't find it. Still a newbie with the boxer layout.

I'll take the clocks apart and see if I can find anything.

Cheers,

All you have to do is have the car running an touch each wire on the connect block until you find the RPM signal wire.

Thanks for the help there Andy. Karma added

I managed to get the tach signal.
If you look to the connectors going into the clock cluster, there are three.
Get the one on the right, there are little numbers on them.

Number 6, Orange cable, this is the RPM signal wire coming from the ECU.
