How much oil would drain out of the gearbox?

I know that it has 4-4.5l capacity but how much would actually drain out? Same question about the rear diff.

Never measured what comes out but heat both and drain till
It drips nearly dry.then refill.

i was just a wee bit amused/qurious...had the car serviced today and only 3l went in between the gearbox and a rear differential.

thats wrong!! if you drain a box and diff on an impreza you will need at least 6litres minimum.
any time i order oil for box/diff i get 7litres.
ive a new age 04 blob.........maybe im wrong with other subarus??

mine is 2.0X forester with a dual range gearbox. by manual it takes 4.0l for gearbox and 0.8 for rear diff. left 6l of oil (to give a bit of a leeway) with the garage, 3l came back unopened.

I changed mine at the weekend. A little under 5.0L in total to refill the diff & gearbox, I'd expect that amount to drain out too unless the levels were running low. Mine is a Classic Impreza.
