Removing 3m type tape?

Does anybody know how to remove very tough 3m tape. After the local scum shattered my left wind deflector with an egg I took off the broken pieces. Now I'm left with old the adhesive. I've tried soaking in hot soapy water and gently scraping with a plastic screwdriver, wd40, adhesive remover (halfords) and lots and lots of time but still no joy. If I keep at it it's lifting tiny flecks of paint almost like stone chips so I not gonna keep at it. Looks terrible and driving me crazy as there wasn't a mark on the car before this :angry1: :angry1:. Has anybody had the same problem?
 
i've used petrol on a rag and scrape with a finger nail a few times and its worked very well but ya will need to polish it after!
 
Petrol or tar remover.

Also try a heat gun or hairdryer to soften it up.

petrol
tar remover
Heat gun
all work well my prefered option being the drill and rubber wheel or the heat gun
