Tyre size for 97 gc8 Sti coupe

Just wondering???
Mates car is running 215/40/17 tyres.

He's wondering will 225/45/17 tyres fit his
Rims? He really wants RE070 potenza's on his
Car as he loves the feel from them.

So any help or a better tyre choice would
