mixing oils

murt

Middle Lane Hogs
the car is goin in for a service this week end, my car is a bit low on oil, is it wise to throw a litre of different oil in just till i get the service done????????

I dont think it would be a problem but then again my motto is "i might be slow, but im rough" you might need a second opinion but sure what could go wrong :hang:

ya it would be fine just make sure its semi-syntetic or fully syntetic in the car already the grade doesn't really matter for top ups

Yeah murt you will be ok provided you dont drive it for too long even its different to what ya have in it already, engine oil is not just for lubrication in any case, it also helps to draw the heat away from the moving parts, make sure ya have plenty of oil in her and you'll be grand just dont put cooking oil in it if your badly stuck!!
only jokin! :subaru:

yep, its grand as long as theyre both the same type of oil (fully synt, semi synt . . ) and the viscosity rating is the same (10w 40 . . . )
