Still Having Problems :( (Finally Sorted, well 90% there)

Hi Folks,

still having issues with the car:
fitted a brand new knock sensor yesterday (old one was cracked)
i have also fitted a new air filter
car has new plugs(pfr6b)
new(2nd hand)MAF

started the car this morning cold, cut out straight away
started it again was fine until i rev it and it cut out again
started and let heat up slightly was spluttery and sounded like was misfiring?
when she heated up she runs semi fine ( idle a bit misfirey/spluttery)
at high revs doesnt seem to be missing
when i plug out the maf the car dies
ive used a can of carb cleaner trying to find Vacuum leaks but cant seem to find any
i have noticed the exhaust is blowing somewhere around the turbo/manifold , could this be causing it?

i havent a clue what else it could be :icon_cry:

any ideas would be gratefully appreciated

Thanks
John

Re: Still Having Problems :(

Have you checked the plug leads/coil pack? Are all 4 plugs getting spark?

Re: Still Having Problems :(

iv checked them all working fine  thanks
just plugged the black connectors in, its showing code 23 Mass Air Flow Sensor Circuit
the new(2nd hand) MAF is hardly fecked could it be

Do these symptoms seem right for a dodgy MAF :dontknow: , is there any way to test the MAF with a multimeter etc

Cheers
John

Re: Still Having Problems :(

the reason the fault for the maf is there cuz you disconnected it when she was running disconect the batt. for 20 mins and drive her and then conect the black plugs and see if the fault is still there..

Re: Still Having Problems :(

reset the ecu
connected Black connectors to confirm no fault code
disconnected them again and took her for a blast
was spluttery when 1st started her (she wasnt fuly cold was warm)
got back to house, connected blacks again and no fault code showing
disconnected blacks and connected greens
took her for another spin, no fault code again just the constant flash of the light

im lost now as to what it could be :dontknow:

Re: Still Having Problems :(

this is the kind of ideas ya should be looking at. When was she last serviced? once all the servicable parts have been ruled out (plugs, air filter, fuel filter) then start looking and non servicable parts (plug leads, fuel pump, etc)

remember an engine only needs 4 things to run, Air + Fuel + Compression + Spark.

Re: Still Having Problems :(

cheers for the replies guys

i changed the fuel filter just after i got the car (2 years & 38,000km ago ), i think il get a new one in the morning
plugs & air filter brand new
i have some new hose so il change a few of the vacuum ones in the morn see how that goes

failing that i think il be taking Dans advice and heading for a pro to look at her

Re: Still Having Problems :(

have ya tried an engine coolant temp sensor have seen them give trouble and also they have a lot to do with fuel map so can cause all sorts of issues

that was changed the same time as the fuel filter, about 2 years ago so shouldnt be gone

Re: Still Having Problems :(

didnt think that would cause this thought dodgy oxygen sensor only caused rich mixture
neither are coming up on the fault codes nothing is at mo
im more inclined to think it could be fuel filter i think they should be changed every 15k (correct me if im wrong)
or vacuum leak somewhere

Re: Still Having Problems :(

sometimes they can cause a lean mixture and chucking etc ,another thing to check is the intake pipe to the turbo they can split and may not be that obvious, to see

Re: Still Having Problems :(

changed the fuel filter this morning, strangely there was no pressure when i took the pipe off the filter (i didnt bother disconnecting fuel pump and running her to get the pressure out)
checked vacuum hoses all seem fine

car still running crap :icon_cry: :icon_cry:

Re: Still Having Problems :(

If the car was sitting over night there wont be any fuel pressure

Re: Still Having Problems :(

won't be fuel filter nor 02 sensor. MAF possible.

Kudz if your about drop up and we'll try MAF on for you.
