alarm wont arm

Hi

anyone got an idea, either how to reset the alarm on a 2001 bugeye (standard alarm), or what might be wrong?
the car doesnt lock when i arm it, i can lock it with the key
when i push the button to lock the alarm tries to arm, but the doors dont lock and the alarm starts to go off
i can however unlock it with the alarm -

a strange one, unplugged the battery to see if it would reset, no joy
 
Could be any number of things mate, best to get an auto electrician to look at it.
 
just an update, the alarm issue must have been a bit of damp in the circuit
during an enforced stay in the US of america, thanks volcano
the car had been left sitting about for 3 weeks, when i came back, the alarm worked again,

off now to blow the cobwebs out of car!
