Sorry to hear your troubles, Where did you get a price of 3500 from ?
It seems abit much esp these days :icon_confused: I would be shopping around for prices. Make sure whoever does your work, knows their subarus

If you want a cheap way out you could buy a 2nd hand engine and fit it ,but could be as bad as the one ye take out. is your car japanese? mapped?

cheers 4 d reply's lads.. i was told today its defo bottom end bearin and its badly done so i was given d number of a specialist subaru guy up north.. he said 1100 stirling for second hand engine fitted timed etc.. however as one of u say might not last... or he can rebuild my engine 4 1500 stirling all new internals and has a guarantee wi no money payed till i drive her. a mate of mine got his type r done second hand engine and he hasn looked back, however i think ill go 4 d rebuild and at least if i want to mod or watever after i no wher im at wit d internals.. how does this sound to u guys?????

tommy my engine is standard not mapped only drivin d car a week sick over it so wen i get it done i want to be sure im not wastin money love the car other than this headache..

it could well be him ill double check d name n let ya no.. but he is meant to be very good wi sti's!!! think d rebuild is worth d money was also quoted 2500euro from predator mototrsport in tralee for rebuild!!

You won't go wrong with ali burrows, he's a genuine nice fella and has built quite a few engines for lads on here

Sometimes Ali Burrows has 2nd hand engines for sale aswell, and Ali wouldnt sell you a crap one, i presume that 1500 is only a hand in your block andthey hand it back rebuild price and doesnt include taking out engine, stripping, putting everything back onto block like heads, gaskets, timing belts, oil pump, oil modene etc etc.. finally fitiing the engine back in, fluids and getting her running. for rough idea, as far as i camn remember. it worksout around 3 to 400 euro for new oil pump and modene alone, head gaskets around 100 euro, timing belt around 100, oil and coolant around 100 euro etc etc these just ropugh prices and will probably cost more. i dont want to be frightening you but there is only one cheap way, and thats 2nd hand engine.. and thats at best a 50/50 chance..
i am facing the same delema, mine is a higher tuned one but now i am faced with being able to buy a real nice car for the price or less of an engine... see a 99 v5/v6 white sti for sale in Kilkenny on Donedeal.. under 4k!!!!!!!!! no nct and needs tyres
If you not able to work on it yorself ask the likes of Ali or Dave the price of a trailor in drive out rebuild and compare to trailor in drive out 2nd hand engine fit.. weigh up what year your car is and what its worth mate

cheers 4 ur honesty i only got a rough price from ali but i think wat he does is take mine rebuild it for 1500 sterling but will hav to trailor it up myself and drive home.. ill hav to double check wether that includes taking my engine out etc, i personally dont thinkits worth d risk of a second hand engine but finances will hav d final say ha.. hopefully u get urs sorted too mate i couldn part wi mine though as iv only jus got it and it is immaculate for a 98.. is ur engine gone too???

Rebuild is the best job, Dont bother with the second hand engine no matter what the seller tells you whats been done when :snooty:

Get the pump done also.
Ali is the best man for the job, very good attention to detail and his work istop notch

At 1500, i cant see Ali doing anything more than physical rebuild of your engine..
removal, stipping down, building back up, and refit plus all the gaskets fluids etc etc would be extra.
Maybe he is doing everything at that price!!, if he is, be up straight away before he comes to his senses as that would be an extremely cheap price for a trailor in drive out service.. and by a top bloke. another good alternative is a brand new crate 2.5 or 2ltr sti 8 motor.. around 2keuro for the motor then you have all the bits again. Bare in mind if your car is a jap, you would be mad to do a rebuild or new engine without doing a remap.. and more bad news is that unless your car is a late 98 and is v5, you cant remap your standard ecu, you may buy likes of apexi etc etc, if it is the 99 00 v5 v6 type you can remap the standard ecu.
My car was a 2.5 running around 430/430. unfortunetly i snapped a conrod, destroying block aswell so have nothing to start with, i will only be paying for the cost of parts and build as i will do everything else my self but still its expensive and with seeing the cars i can buy for the cost of engine, am finding it hard to pump money into it

mine is a jap and im not 100% sure if it v5 i no its different shape to d 97 but whether its d new version beats me.. why would it be bad to get it rebuilt without remap could this be wat caused it to blow?? say urs was some machine den man stillur lucky u hav knowledge to do d work if u want, all i no is id be keen to work but hav not a clue bout scoobys so.. does a new crate motor fit in no bother?? wats d plan wi urs if u buy a new car??
