Best Engine Mods

You see scoobys with all sorts of engine mods: downpipes, intercooler mods, dump valves etc

If you are starting with a completely standard 2.0L turbo non-STi engine, whats the most reliable, cost effective way of adding 20bhp??

deffo not the dumpvalve anyway , they add nothing ...

probably the cheapest and most effective way of releasing a few ponies is with breathing mods ,

a good aftermarket panel filter , and a centre section decat would be first on the list ....

after that , decat downpipe , fuel pump , and a remap

yep i'd say filter, exhaust, decat and remap are the best starting points, the site traders would give good insight here

Yip, a straight through center section and decent back box with a good panel filter, makes the it feel better to drive and a bit more responsive. Just my opinion of course
Then if you want more go remap and maybe bigger turbo while you're at it along with fuel pump upgrade

Would fitting a larger intercooler offer much (or any!) power increase?

A bigger intercooler would actually create lag unless you have supporting mods, upgraded turbo, mapping etc...
