How to bring down my emmissions ?

TommyM

Petrolheads
Well lads ,

my car failed the NCT on emmissions ,i had the cat in for the test ,i know there are plenty of lads who have had trouble with emmissions for the test and would have advice.

low idle CO 1.73 VOL , high idle CO 2.38 VOL LAMBDA 0.934

i have attached the NCT report.

thanks

Have you tried Dipitane tommy?

you can get it in most motor factors and is meant to work wonders

no i havent tried it ,is this a petrol aditive?

As above, but should have passed with the cat on,
so may well be that the cat is no longer doing the job it should be

Yeah its a fuel addative, check out http://www.dipetane.com/

But by the looks of your print out there, you have a problem, my reading where not that high with NO cat in.

I'd say have it checked by a mechanic, could be a faulty Cat or Lambda sensor etc

I got a loan of this cat from a friend of mine and he passed the NCT 3 weeks before so thats what steered me away from the idea of the cat being f***ed :ponder2:

My first test with turbo back kakimoto system no cat was
low idle co 1.80 vol%
high idle co 1.56vol%
lambda 1.001
fail
second test with cat and full standard exaust
low idle co 0.01vol%
high idle 0.16vol%
lambda 1.000
pass

does anyone know if the full standard exhaust would make a difference? (test was done with the standard cat and i left the cat-back on)

no it wouldnt as far as i no once the cat is on thats the only bit u need as far as i no

you need to run dipthane through about 3 full tanks it clears up carbon deposits..has anyone tried running bioethanol while doing the test? stick a half tank of e85 in with normal 95..in theory it should reduce c02 emissions after test you could then dilute it out or syphon before it does any corrosive damage to your fule lines or injectors? good idea? bad idea?

the full standard system will make a difference.
i noticed a big difference with noel on the machine wen we were testin mine...

the rest of the system (cat back)is really only for noise suppression and restriction....
IMO it wont help bring emmissions down!!!
:ponder2: :ponder2:

After fitting the cated downpipe it wasnt meeting the aftermarket exhaust
must have been shorter than the decat downpipe or something so that was
the only reason i then fitted the full standard system but im not sure how much of
a differance it made
