Right need tyres soon...

Going to go for Toyo Proxys id say..

But.. From reading through previous posts most people are running 215's on classics...

My car has 225's on it since i bought it and i dont get any rubbing or anything...(but rarely have people in the back)

Whats the advantage / disadvantage of the wider tyre other than rubbing?

Mark

You've prodrive P1 wheels on don't you?

AFAIK they are only 7 inches wide so the tyres wouldn't be too stretched so might be the reason they don't rub, or possibly your rear arches have been rolled but either way the fact they're only 17" helps with not rubbing.

I don't know if there is any advantage in having 225's but they will certainly be more expensive than 215/40's.

Thanks Brian

Yeah I have the prodrive wheels alright. Just have seen previous posts where people have said 225/45/17 on a classic rub like hell..

Ill probly go with 215's then on price alone, was just wondering if the slightly wider tyre helped handling at all..

Mite go with 215/45/17 to keep the arches filled

The advantage of 225 means wider tyre so more rubber on the ground which means better grip. I will be going for 225's on my B4 the next time i need to change in place of the 215's. As you have said the price plays a part as well but if you have 225's and they are not rubbing then i would stick with them. Fatter tyres look better too.

Do you have 225/45/17 or 225/40/17 on yours at the moment? The lads who's i have seen run a 40 wall on the classics

Thats what i thought alright, it would mean slightly more grip.. They are 225/45/17 on at the moment, iv never had a prob with them and i think they look perfect. Would it be a possibility that theres a reason for having 45's?... As i said first time iv needed tyres since i got her

I had 215s on the Legacy and just changed them for 225. Much better. The 215s looked stretched on the wheel and the car felt "slippy" in the corners.

I could very well be wrong about the 40, maybe thats just lads trying to get quicker acceleration with the smaller radius  ... Or 45 could be the standard size for a type-r :dontknow: ... I would stick with the 45 wall if you are in any doubt

Where do you intend buying from or have you priced them up yet?

Im running 215 / 45 /18 on the Wagon and there isnt any rubbage on it.... There is plenty of room to jump up to 225's aswell.....

Tho not sure i want to keep the 18's, I was thinkin of goin down to 16's or 17's depending on what i find that looks good....

i had 215/40/17 on my classic and with the profile so low i cracked 3 of my wheels, i went and got new wheels and went to 215/45/17 wheels are grand but if any one any way big sits in the back it rubs
