Strange noise from rear

Lads,

Theres a strange noise lately form the rear of my type r.
It seems to be coming from the rear passanger side,

its a kind of metal on metal,clunking, whinning noise.
Only seems to be there at low speeds (less than 50k) not sure if it goes above this or i cant hear it over road/exhaust noise
seems to get louder as the car slows down or turning at low speed and does nt seem to be there when the car is cold?!?

Any ideas?
I wud be fairly limited when it comes to mechanics
probably could be a lot of things based on that description!!

Sounds like the rear diff from that description Ronan or maybe a suspension issue.

Maybe wheel bearing

Hopefully its not the diff, although it did come to mind alright!!
insurance due this week so hopefully the solution wont be too painful
