Cleaning Solenoids

Cleaning solinoids on a b4,Where are they, How do you do it??? Is it a big job, and what are the gains in doing it??? Thanks

hey john......even though the pipes and the connections are numbered, make a quick drawing yourself of the layout. there are two solinoids in the box in perticular that will need your attention. you will see them cause they will have gunk in and around them more so then the others. i used compressed air from a can to flush out the carb cleaner. imo its better to start with the pipes going into the solinoid box first. if you dont do these your back to square one as soon as you start the engine. in perticular the 3 pipes comming from the under side of the intercooler and the ones from the top of the manifold. when spraying the carb cleaner in you will know if you have the inlet port as it will come out the outlet port while making an air type noise. there are one way filters in the box on some of the pipes, make sure they go back on the same way and only remove 2 pipes at a time to save incorrect re-assembly. when refitting the solinoid box make sure you refit the pipe that goes into the offside wing, this is connected to the boost solinoid and ye dont want to forget that one.... :thumbsup:
