... when I first joined the Club it was regarded by many (not me) as an 'old mans club' :D
Well I'm sorry to push up the average age of members so much, but I'll be 55 soon and I've been driving sporty cars since I passed my driving test in the '70s, and hope I might still be doing so when I'm a pensioner!   :nana:

I learnt to drive in a Mk.1 Ford Escort G.T. and "cut my teeth" driving an MGB GT with wire wheels, and as nobody told me that it wasn't really very fast, I just drove it like it was. But then I moved on to a passionate affair with a stunning Italian beauty, a Giulia GT that was the first of a trio of Alfa Romeos (and the best of them!).

Now I'm on my second Subaru, and my AWD Legacy wagon is just perfect for my present lifestyle, in the wilds of West Clare. Is there anything it can't do?  :dunno: (Apart from handbrake turns!)

:subaru:

Welcome along greenwagon  hope you get plenty of enjoyment from our forum and maybe one day we'll see you at an ISDC event or meet. Were you down at the Clare Motor Club event on January 7th? Get some pictures posted here when you can so we can spot you on the roads :D

Paulo

Welcome on board greenwagon. We actually have a few "mature" members who would have passed their driving tests in the 70's too!

I'm not naming any names though!!!!

:D Welcome along mate

You would of needed to be around a good few years ago to appreciate that comment ;)
I don't think anybody thinks that now - it's a Subaru Club full stop....

A relative of mine used to live in a place called 'Carron' on the Burren - miss driving those roads.. perfect for the Scooby :subaru:

Alan,

You remind me of a fabulous summer that I (mis)spent living just outside Lisdoonvarna, around 1980 (or whichever year it was that the sun shone in Co. Clare!). I was driving the Giulia GT at the time, and it loved the roads just as well as any Scooby, especially overtaking up the Corkscrew Hill!

I don't seem to have any pictures left of my own , but here's a very similar Alfa that I found on the internet:

I bought mine after reading a particularly glowing review in "The Motor" magazine, which described it as "a poor man's Ferrari".  And I thought

Thanks Paulo,

No, I wasn't aware of the event. And I'd better give the car a good wash before I post any pictures, or meet any of ye, but there is a Subaru somewhere under all the mud ... honest!

And thanks to everybody else for the warm welcome too!

Welcome aboard.

I've travel the corksrcew a few times, spend alot time up in north Clare. a great road if you get a clear run.

We traveled that in one of the charity drives the club has done.

That's right, but don't forget the all-important hyphen, or people might read it as "old boy-racer".  :eek:mg:

...not old time racer

You bet, I never drove one of these: www.sealcoveautomuseum.org/1913mercer.html ... honest!

(Though I wouldn't mind a "test drive" of one, they were the WRX of their day. :D)

Mack,

It can be mighty craic if you do get that clear run, but fierce frustrating if you don't, and there's only one stretch on it that you stand a chance in hell of overtaking, but that's immediately after a severe hairpin ...

OK, here's a shot of the car outside the house. Sorry about the mud (you can see I wasn't altogether joking about that), but it's a fact of life in the winter round these parts, and I do sometimes go exploring some remote tracks with the AWD.

Niall,

You can say that again! I could show you a straight stretch of bumpy, narrow road near me that's a challenge to stay on at anything over 30mph!!!
