i use 15w 50 mobil 1, 10w 40 is the wrong grade to use :hand:

I wouldn't say so. Especially for everyday use, even with harder driving.

As long as you don't drive really hard (rally, races or at least trackdays etc.) you don't really need higher grade than 10w40. Especially in Irish climate, which is not too hot, being realistic.

cheers

when i got my engine rebuild done with ali burrows he told me not to use anything else only 15w 50 synthetic oil he said to me that 10w 40 is bad to use, i thought all impreza wrx or sti use the 15w 50 grade ?

And what Subaru manual says?
Mine says 10w40 is good enough for normal everyday usage as long as you don't live in dessert areas :)

I actually at the moment also use 15w50 by Motul, but this is kind of overkill as for daily driver and I\m going to change it to lower grade (also Motul anyway)

I use Castrol Edge 10W 60 when I do my own oil changes but Dave put Motol Oil (not sure of the grade) into it last time I had it done.

I rang Subaru Ireland and was told by them to use 10W 60.

Most engine builders highly recommend 15w 50. Had 10w 40 in to run in the engine
[/quote]

as brian said, i would go buy the traders that do engine builds and what oil they recommend, that just my opinion

i use castrol 10/60 and would change oil every 5k, iv bein told its a bit ott but not going to do any harm. i suppose you could use a lower grade if you werent going to drive the dogs out of it and change it vey regulary, and castrol recomends 10/60for every impreza turbo from 97 on ward if i remember correctly.

hope this helps a little bit noel

Mickwrx................everybody here will almost nearly
have a differen't opinion.

But this is what i have been able to gather over the years.

Subaru instructed Garage Owners they would only stand over their
warranty if they used 10w40............(this is also recommened by Pro-Drive)
Hence any Subaru Garage will tell ya 10w40

Now if the car is left Standard and you drive your car in the manner your supposed to im sure that's fine.
Fact is we don't.........we mod, we drive hard, we do alot of things

So any of the above would be better 15/50 ....... 10/60 etc....
Motul is very good but also the most expensive (.......i think)

I have alway's used Mobile1 Motorsport 15w/50...........very hard to find now!!
but will be using Motoul next time after hearring so much about it.

The important thing is to leave your car warm up if your using 15/50 or similar oil.
That may not always suite , so just drive her off boost for 10 mins.

Now that might be a bit over kill :dontknow: :dontknow:

Niall.

thanks lads thats helped a lot might drop into dave and tell him the mods i have and see what he recommends :ponder2:

but from what you guys say in your experiences my try 10w 60

thanks for help lads appreciate it :subaru:

subaru garages origonally sold 10-60, but then changed to 10-40. i'd usually put 10-40 in a stanard roadgoing car. 15-50 for modded or tracked cars. everybody has different opinions and different expieriences. i just find this works for me

as above....

motul 15/50 for cars 280bhp above that would have heavy driving common enough.

motul 10/40 for cars below280bhp....
