Ok guys, taken from jon44w.com, but im sure some of you may well be interested.  Sideways Racing Club, aka SWRC have released their calendar for 2007.  The most exciting bit of it is the fact that that they will be running the first ever Annual Irish Drag Championship (stop getting excited the cross dressers amongst us!!!).  The first two of these will be being run by Straighliners, the same professional company that run the Scooby Shoot out event and also Ten of the Best.  This for me is the most exciting part of it.  Heres the information posted

SWRC at BISHOPSCOURT - Bigger Than Ever!!! Full calendar included...

NEXT EVENT SUN 11th Feb, Bishopscourt .

Happy New Year and welcome to the 2007 Sideways Racing Championship. In this bulletin I have included the entire season’s calendar of events, along with the revised time schedule. Drivers will be notified if any further alterations to the schedule are to be made as we constantly strive to make improvements wherever possible.

All events in 2007 will be at our Bishopscourt venue. Aghadowey circuit is now most notable merely for its absence from this year’s calendar. We have proven over 5 years and 3 circuits that each section of our event is as vital to our success as any other and we are strongly opposed to dropping any part of it. We have resisted pressure to do exactly that during 2 seasons at Aghadowey and are no longer prepared to risk the future of our events on such shaky grounds. Our future is secure at Bishopscourt where we will continue to grow from strength to strength with our format fully in tact.

This growth has lead us to securing 2 events with the professional drag racing outfit, Straightliners. This year will be the first ever annual Irish Drag Championship, kicking off on April 29th with the first of 3 stand alone drag events. These days will consist of Drag, Show ‘n’ Shine and a Rolling Road Shoot Out, with our new mobile dyno (also available for club bookings). All should be aware however, that entry numbers will be limited. Huge interest is anticipated and so we will be accepting entries in advance. Details of how to enter these events will be published in the near future.

BISHOPSCOURT
At our last visit there (for the ‘King of the Court’ Drift Championship) a dispute over adjoining land meant that we were unable to provide our spectators with the best vantage points. This problem has since been overcome and once again spectators will enjoy unobstructed views of the action. BC being our sole venue now enables us to focus our attention on developing the site to its full potential. Expect to see steady improvements as the season progresses.

TIME ATTACK
To ensure drivers a certain value for money, entry numbers for this section will be limited to 30 cars. All drivers MUST be signed on between 8 – 8.45am. The first cars will be on the track at 9am. Due to the early start time and in an effort to reduce noise emissions, drifting will NOT be permitted during any of the Time Attack practice sessions.

From now on the only SWRC race cars permitted to enter this section are those from the Super 7’s and the Open Class. However, preference will be given to entries from outside the race series. Due to the limited numbers, in a situation where the number of entries received in advance exceeds the maximum for this section, preference will be given to fully track prepared cars over standard road cars. IE Roll cage, etc

Entry Fee £40 =
3 x 10min practice sessions
2 x Timed Runs (2 laps each)

Prizes awarded to winners from Group A, B, C and S (for Street legal cars)
Details of Time Attack classes available upon request.

DRIFTNI
A number of the alterations have been made in order to highlight this section as a main feature of the program. Entry numbers are limited to 60 cars. All drivers entering this section must be signed on BEFORE 12pm. All cars must have a half roll cage and be fitted with a driver’s bucket seat and 4pt harness. Only cars with a full cage (incl. door bars) 2 bucket seats and harnesses may carry passengers. No passengers may be carried by the Top 16 drivers. All drivers must wear a (minimum) single layer flame resistant race suit. Drivers failing to comply will not progress beyond the qualification stages.
*NB – These are minimum requirements, NOT merely suggestions. Such steps must be taken in order to protect our drivers from the risk of death or serious injury. Expect these measures to tighten as the competition evolves.

Entry Fee £40 =
1 x practice session
2 x Qualifying sessions
Top 16
Top 8

Prizes awarded to the top 3 drivers

The Top 16 drivers will be awarded points as follows:
15 12 10 8 6 4 3 2

1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1

ADVANCE PAYMENT
To secure an entry for Feb 11th, drivers from all categories may forward a cheque (made payable to SIDEWAYS RACING) to the address (available via U2U or email). Details including the driver’s name, address, contact telephone number and description of the car should be enclosed, along with the appropriate fee.

CHAMPIONSHIP REGISTRATION
This applies to drivers from the DriftNI and SWRC race series. Racers will be familiar with this although this is a new introduction for the drifters. This is a once annual administration fee of £20 which can be paid in advance or at the first event of the year. Drivers may secure a preferred competition number in advance; otherwise numbers will be allocated on the first day of competition.
Non-payment = no points or prizes. Drivers who paid their license fee from September ’06 onwards are not required to renew their license until the beginning of the 2008 season.

STANDARD OF CARS
Cars must remain clean and presentable at ALL times. If this is in question SWRC reserve the right to refuse any vehicle competition entry. This includes damage sustained during the event. The Scrutineer reserves the right at all times to reject any vehicle which does not meet safety standards and may be hazardous to the driver/spectators/circuit.

RACE SERIES
Some alterations have been made to the championship regulations for 2007. These will be available at Race Control or via post upon request.
To help maintain a highly competitive series throughout the classes, the procedure for determining the starting grid has been altered:
Heat 1 – Grid slots determined at random by draw
Heat 2 – The starting order will be the reverse of the finishing order in Heat 1
Finals - The highest scoring driver from the heats will start on pole.

OPEN Class Divisions
It is clear to even the novice spectator that a huge void exists between the performance of the top few cars and the rest of the field in this class. I have outlined 4 ‘Divisions’ that will help reduce the advantage previously enjoyed by the elite bunch. Also, in the interests of close competition, spectator appeal AND safety, some further changes have been made:

- At the start of a race each Division will be set off at 5 second intervals, with the fastest, Division 1, setting off last. (The length of the interval may be tweaked until we achieve the optimum results)
- The starting grid for Heat 2 will be the reverse of the finishing order in Heat 1 (within each Division)
- The driver with the highest points tally will start the Final on pole position (regardless of Division)

Division 4 (EG – S2000, MK2 Escort, Standard Subaru / Cosworth)
Excludes space-framed chassis
2wd Naturally Aspirated cars < 2200cc 4wd Naturally Aspirated cars < 3000cc
Forced Induction cars < 2000cc, standard engine management, turbo and intercooler
Excludes Forced Induction engine transplants

Division 3 (EG – Eurocar, Hot Rod, M5, Mildly Modified Subaru / Cosworth)
Non space-framed Forced Induction < 2000cc, standard turbo
Non space-framed N.A Bike powered cars < 1300cc
Including space-framed, 2wd N.A < 4000cc
Including space-framed, 4wd N.A < 3000cc

Division 2 (EG – DTM Merc, RS500 Thunder Saloon, V8 Chevy, Twin-Engined Clio)
Includes space-framed chassis
2wd N.A Unlimited 4wd N.A < 4000cc N.A Bike powered cars
Front engined, Forced Induction 2wd cars <2500cc

Division 1 (EG – Cossie Clio, Evo, Subaru)
N.A cars unlimited in engine capacity, transmission and chassis design
Forced Induction 2wd cars unlimited in engine capacity and chassis design
Forced Induction 4wd cars unlimited in engine capacity, non- space framed chassis
All must retain the appearance of a production car originally with seating capacity for 2 or more occupants

*Any sports cars / cars with an open cockpit must have a FULL roll cage

The Divisions above take into consideration the nature and layout of the Bishopscourt track, where the 4wd Turbo rally derived saloons have proven to be vastly more effective than the full blooded race machines such as a Eurocar, National Hotrod and even the DTM Mercedes. When we secure Brands Hatch or Oulton Parkas a regular venue, perhaps then we can reconsider! In the mean time I welcome the opinions of anyone with an interest in this subject

Get off it before you break it ! :D

Maybe the SWRC should have a special event where a competitor drives around the track hotly pursued by davelegacy in a BMW 5 series .  :shoot: The aim is to stay ahead as long as possible and finishes when the victim competitor either loses his rear bumper or kaks his pants . :eek:mg:  As an added incentive you could have a bottle of bulmers hanging in the rear window of the car . :guinness:
